Tangled Stairs, Part Two

For part two of our stairwell tangling adventure, I was joined by my son Alex, my daughter, Lilah, Jodi Ehler (CZT), and Valerie Kelley (tangle addict). We added to the previous designs and spread to the other walls...
Alex embellished the boring wall sconce. I love that he uses tangles from my books that I forget to play with! Like "Tung" and "Ogel"
"Chakra".
He started adding his own "Eddies" inside Chakra.
Lilah attacked the entire door, with... Lilah Beans!
Valerie tangled what looked like an underwater scene...
... love the bubbles!
Tangle, Jodi, tangle!

Jodi added onto Bette Abdu's section and expanded on Krystin Watt's "Shrooms"
The Shrooms grew larger and more complex!
I tried to work around Lilah, but she kept adding to MY wall! I tried to fight back with "Btl Joos" vines, but they were no match for her infectious dots.
I added to my section from the first session, but my son claimed the central box by adding a big "Rick's Paradox" I don't know how he drew it without turning the wall!?
Session Three will be held on Oct. 2, from 12-3pm if anyone would care to join us. We'll do some shading too! And if you would like to see our day's work from the level of, and the viewpoint of, a 4 year old... my daughter posted her photos on the Zentangle for Kidz site.

  2. Triple Wow!!! It must be mesmerizing to walk up your staircase. (Note: The family that works on art work together, stays together.) Blessings!

  3. Very very cool. Do you think you will shade it at all.

I'm trying to do more shading. You could use little hatching marks to shade with the black, I guess. If it was a super fine marker, that might look good.

Do you know of a good set of gray markers that would be permanent for shading?

What pens are you using on the wall? What paint works best. My dad says I can tangle my closet doors because they are just ugly flat planks of wood. I'd have to paint them first, though. I was thinking to paint one of them with that chalkboard paint and one of them white to tangle.

    I love that water scene.

  4. Yes! We will definitely shade it. I like to mix a little bit of black acrylic paint in with some matte medium. That way I can paint a light shade of gray right over the drawing. We used Sharpie Oil-based paint markers to draw the tangles. And black acrylic paint is good for the larger areas. I did a mural in my living room using chalkboard paint and then tangled all around it. I need to post a picture of that soon... and I did a Zentangle mural in the store, on the other side of the door seen above.

  5. I haven't had the guts to tangle my walls, but think it still looks good. I hope you have a chance to see my studio's pictures on my blog. Maybe someday it'll be featured in magazines like yours. /:-}
